What is Biblical Counseling?

"Biblical counseling believes that God has granted to His people all things that pertain to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3-4). Biblical counseling holds that God is creator and sustainer of the universe by the power of His Word and that He alone gives life and wisdom by the power of His Word to His people. We see this power and wisdom most clearly in the person of Jesus (1 Corinthians 1:30)."

"Secular psychology can make sure observations about man and his problems, but the observations and well-meaning attempts to offer solutions fall short of the truth about mankind that is revealed to us in God's Word. Biblical counselors believe that the Holy Scriptures chiefly contain what man ought to believe and what duty God requires of them. There is no other foundation outside of God's Word that can offer hope and life for me and women on this side of eternity. Therefore, Scripture is not only necessary in the counseling room, it is sufficient to help men and women with the deepest sorrows and struggles that they face."

"Certification is necessary for Biblical Counseling because the work of counseling happens behind closed doors. Certification is a process that uses people with counseling expertise to evaluate those who would be counselors and certify their faithfulness. This practice is essential in order to have confidence that a counselor is equipped to connect the truths of Scripture and the grace of Christ to the problems you or your loved ones have. Life is too precious, and problems are too serious to entrust them to someone who has not been evaluated."
